Lawyer at the Swedish Armed Forces

Do you want to influence and contribute to Sweden's security and ensure that we can continue to live in a democratic country? As an employee of the Swedish Armed Forces, you become an important part of Sweden's defense. Together with competent and dedicated colleagues, you will have responsibility, development, and challenges.

The legal operations within the Swedish Armed Forces are very diverse and cover a wide range of legal areas, including contract law, public procurement, land and environmental law, property law, transparency and confidentiality, data protection legislation, IT law, intelligence and security protection legislation, administrative law, tort law, labor law, aviation legislation, military operational law, and international law.

The Legal Department is part of the Defense Staff at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters. The department is the central legal function within the Swedish Armed Forces and consists of approximately 60 employees divided into five sections with different areas of responsibility.

Main Responsibilities

As a lawyer in the Legal Department, you will work with all legal issues that arise. The work involves providing legal advice to the entire agency and at all levels. This includes investigations, contract reviews, regulatory work, and preparation of referrals, participating in collaboration groups and projects, and conducting internal training. You will also represent the agency in court and support the agency in contract and dispute negotiations.

The Swedish Armed Forces is now seeking several qualified lawyers for our civil law section, both for permanent positions and fixed-term contracts of one year. This time we are primarily looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the areas of public procurement, security-protected procurement, export control, commercial contract law, procedural law, administrative law, and/or labor law.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Law degree or equivalent (180 credits/270 higher education credits)
  • At least five years of experience in qualified legal work at e.g., law firms, companies, courts, other government agencies, or the Government Offices.

Personal Qualities

You have high integrity, well-developed communication skills, and are outgoing and confident in your role as a lawyer. The work places high demands on delivery, which requires you to be driven and responsible and have a good ability to independently prioritize and organize your work. The position involves many contacts both within and outside the agency. Therefore, you should have good collaboration skills, be pragmatic and solution-oriented, and be accustomed to working proactively. As a person, you should thrive in a demanding and dynamic environment where the pace is, at least at times, high.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability. Psychological tests are part of the recruitment process.
